Apple uses GPT, Windows doesn't and prefers MBR still. Plus there are hidden small EFI (128MB) as well as the 200MB GPT. So the drive really needs to be initialized by Windows 7.
You could move (clone) Mac OS to a small external drive if needed and boot from there just fine.
